Founder and President Dr. Anne Black, Ph.D.
Dr. Anne Black, holds a doctoral degree in community psychology and thanatology, a master's degree in education and certificates of study in the art therapies. In 1990 Anne co-founded The HEALS Program, a school-based bereavement and death crisis project. Subsequently in 1993, The Center for Creative Healing, a non-profit organization, was formed to support and strengthen children and their families during times of loss in Windham County, Vermont. The HEALS expressive arts approach to grief developed into an intensive training program for school counselors and volunteers who came from as far away as Argentina to attend. Since 1996, Ms. Black has been serving as president of Comfort Baskets, Inc., a business founded by her, to offer condolence resources to make the journey through grief easier for men, women and children. Additionally, Dr. Black maintains a limited, private practice and offers seminars and workshops relating to a full spectrum of loss and transition topics.
On a personal note, Anne's 47 year old brother, Jay, died on the 17th of December 1998 after a valiant, two-year struggle with cancer.
Anne lives and works in Brattleboro, Vermont where Comfort Baskets were first developed.
